Yaşar Küçükçalık emphasizes that sustainability and digitalization will be the priority issues in the Turkish textile industry in 2025. He states that Turkish brands can reach global markets more easily with the rise of e-commerce. He states that Türkiye can maintain its leadership in the sector thanks to its strong infrastructure, logistics advantages and integration with the European market. Disagreeing with the criticism that “textiles in Türkiye are finished”, Küçükçalık says that with the right strategies, the sector can overcome the current challenges and take advantage of growth opportunities.
2025 Outlook
It is said that the pandemic is far behind, the fires of wars have started to cool down, and there is a great vitality in the economy, which has been squeezed due to all these global negative developments. What are the effects of this positive atmosphere on the Turkish textile industry? What are your expectations and predictions for 2025?
“Yaşar Küçükçalık: Unfortunately, the material and moral costs that our country has paid for terrorism since the 80s have caused our country great moral distress and great material distress.
The economy will be much better with the coming peace, and our country is ready for the peaceful environment that will develop in our country with its manpower and infrastructure. In 2025, sustainability will be one of the most important agenda items of the textile industry.
In addition, digitalization and technological investments create a critical transformation process for the textile industry. The rise of e-commerce will enable Turkish brands to reach global markets more easily.”
The Future of Türkiye’s Textile Industry
Recently, criticisms such as “textile in Türkiye is over, production has shifted to the east and to countries like Egypt” have been frequently voiced. How accurate do you think these comments are? What kind of a road map should the Turkish textile industry follow in 2025 and how do you see the future of the industry?
“Yaşar Küçükçalık: The textile industry will continue in our country as every industry will continue. Provided that we produce different products that can save our current costs. Although Egypt provides advantages with free trade agreements with African countries and low production costs, it falls short compared to Türkiye’s sectoral infrastructure, logistical advantages and integration with the European market. Instead of saying “textile in Türkiye is over”, it would be a more accurate perspective for the sector to focus on growth opportunities by overcoming its current challenges. With the right strategies, Türkiye can succeed in maintaining a leading position in the global textile industry.”
