On 29 October 2014, the Global Denim Awards 2014 were presented in Amsterdam within the opening day of specialized denim trade show Kingpins Amsterdam.
The initiative presented six design projects by six international emerging designers each paired with an international denim manufacturer. Winners of the contest were Bossa (Turkey) with Gizem Turan from Istanbul, for the Global Denim Award Fabric category and ITV Denim (Italy) with Jonathan Christopher from Rotterdam for the Design category. Involved in the contest were also Candiani Denim (Italy) with Stefano Ughetti aka Camo from Milan, Tejidos Royo (Spain) with Fernanda Fernandes from Amsterdam, Orta Anadolu (Turkey) with Bhavesh Samji from London and Prosperity Textile (China) with Anneloes van Osselaer from Beijing. The winners were selected by a panel of international denim experts made up by denim connoisseurs Adriano Goldschmied, Jason Denham (founder of Denham de Jeanmaker), Rene Strolenberg (co-founder Tenue de Nimes, Amsterdam) and Norma Quinto, fashion journalist. The six emerging designers were given the opportunity to visit their designated mill to develop an in-depth understanding of fiber, fabric, wash and denim development while each designing five eco-friendly denim total looks. The collections was judged upon the merits of the design and the innovative nature of the denim fabrications. The winning designers will be awarded 10,000 Euro and will have their winning designs displayed at the Kingpins shows in Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and at the Amsterdam Denim Days 2015.
